Elvis and Graceland - at last!

Well after being an Elvis fan for over 40 years I have finally made it. Despite the fact I was working in Memphis for 3 weeks earlier this year I never had the chance to visit Graceland. On this trip to visit my friends and associates at Barnhart Crane and Rigging in Memphis I had a couple of hours free - so I took the opportunity.

One of Elvis' two jets - the Lisa Marie.

The Front of the mansion at Gracelands

The front door - a lot of excited people were with me - over 30 years after his death he still has an incredible presence.

The first thing you see when you enter is this staircase with two of his guitars placed there. Due to respect the upstairs of the house is excluded from the tour.

The Lounge and beautiful piano.

His parents bedroom.

The dining room decorated for Christmas

A typical 70's kitchen.

The Jungle Room.

The TV room down in the basement. He had 3 TV's installed because he heard that the President used to have 3 TV's on all the time so that he could watch the three network news broadcasts all at the same time - Elvis liked that and followed suit.

The bar in the basement TV room.

His pool table - if only those balls could talk.

Another view of the Jungle Room.

The house from the rear.

A letter from President Bush sent to commemorate the 30 year anniversary of Elvis' death in 2007.

Those white shoes!

Hound Dog and Return to Sender gold records - two of my most favorite Elvis songs. I listened to Elvis at the same time I listened to the Sex Pistols, Stranglers, Sham 69, Buzzcocks, The Undertones and Soiuxsie and the Banshees and loved all this music and still do to this day.

Movie scripts from his movies presented to him as momentos.

From these incredible and memorable clothes he was obviously once a very skinny guy.

The pool between the house and the Meditation Garden.

Incredible that's all you can say!

The plaque explaining the Meditation Garden

The Meditation Garden where Elvis, his mum and dad and Grandma are buried.
